It is helpful to us if you decide a theme. The reason is that there would be unity to what was being collected and received. If you send a box with 20 toy cars and 20 toothbrush, the kids who get the tootbrush might be bummed they didn't get the car etc. Sometimes we will hold off giving certain items until we receive more from someone else so that there can be a fair balance to the items being given. Some ideas of themes:
This is exciting but don't try to do this alone. Bring people along with you to help and it provides a way to get others involved who may be looking for a way to serve God in.
Some suggestions for leaders (there may be more):
a) Prayer Leader
b) Promotions Leader
c) Wrapping Leader
d) Packing Leader
e) Schedule it to be picked up and pay Coordinator
The gifts and items you send directly impact the life of a family. It brings a blessing and open door to hearts that may not have otherwise been open. Pray the spiritual breakthrough in people lives through the simple Joy of receiving a gift, medicine, backpack, or whatever it is they receive. The greatest gift they can receive is not the Blessings in a box but Jesus in their hearts.
4. SET A PICK-UP DATE
This is entirely up to you as we can receive a Box-of-Blessing any time of the year. However if you wish to send a Box-of-Blessing for certain times here are some guidelines:
a) School Supplies (deadline to ship: Week of March 20)
b) Christmas (deadline to ship: Week of October 15)
You will need a box or boxes ready that the items can be placed into. You can find any large shipping box at places like Staples, Office Max, or even the shipping companies like Atlas, Mobility, LBC or Asian grocery stores like Seafood City. Look for the large size boxes that are about 2 ft wide and 1ft 6inch tall. The cost to ship a box is about $65 depending on the company.
5. GET YOUR BOXES!
Get the word out! This is important step because the more people know the details, theymore they will remember that they can participate. People need to have direction to what they should keep their eyes open for (school supplies, 1st aid, toys, etc) and the when and where to bring them with lots of reminders. People mean well but we are all forgetful at times.
